Renewal
the long hard winter takes its toll on living things.
they cannot withstand the fury of its biting cold winds.
but even the winter of quiet desparation holds within it the promise if spring
awakening from a quarter century's hibernation I see before me a beautiful bud,
delicate and precious,
it opens itself to the dawning of a new day.
a new time of life,
a season of vast changes approaches.
it sees things change but clings to its old habits learned under a lifetime of snow filled sadness.
there is safety to be had in cringing from the cold,
wishing to remain virtually frost-proof, the bud closes itself off
at the slightest hint of winters reprise fearing the scalding frost still.
oh to awaken this bud to see the beauty that surrounds it
trees splashed with emerging color paint splashed delicately upon a canvas
by some old master once again as every year before.
